Amber Lole – Wildlife Advisor in Southern England, GWCT Advisory
Amber joined the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT) in February 2020 and has built up a broad advisory practice across southern England, working with private clients, farmer groups and the GWCT Allerton Project.
Day to day, Amber’s work spans long-term biodiversity monitoring, biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments and the preparation of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans for the creation of habitat banks. She has recently taken on the facilitation of a new farmer cluster in North Dorset, working with farmers to deliver landscape-scale biodiversity improvement through collaboration.
Amber is deep into summer pollinator surveys for both private clients and her farmer cluster, alongside the final stages of several complex BNG projects that are nearing completion.
What keeps her coming back? The variety. “Summer survey season makes up for any desk work across the rest of the year,” she says, and a quieter winter leaves room to enjoy fieldsports and maintain the connections that make this work meaningful.
Away from work, Amber is a self-confessed dog collector with a pack of cockers and a golden retriever, all trained with great enthusiasm, if not yet a magic formula. She is happiest out in the countryside in any weather, whether on horseback or leading the pack.
